No. 2 Notre Dame enters the fourth quarter on the path to improving to 8-0 and adding another victory to its pursuit of a first-ever conference championship, leading Boston College 38-23 with 15 minutes left to play in Chestnut Hill.
Ian Book has been outstanding running the Fighting Irish offense, tallying 267 yards and three touchdowns on 19-of-24 passing while adding a team-high 67 rushing yards on eight attempts. While Boston College has committed to stopping the rushing efforts of Kyren Williams and the rest of that Notre Dame running back rotation, Book has made the defense pay for selling out with designed runs that have sparked scoring drives. It’s a continuation of the storyline that lingered in the wake of last week’s 47-40 win against Clemson, where Book turned in one of the best performances of his career.
Boston College is not going away thanks to former Notre Dame quarterback Phil Jurkovec, who continues to bring life to the Eagles passing attack in a way that has not been seen in years. But even as Boston College marched down the field for a touchdown late in the quarter to cut the lead to 15 points, the Irish quickly got moving the other way, in position to add to their total when the fourth quarter begins.
